I’ve been eating at The Soup Kitchen, on Highland Drive in Sugarhouse, the entire time I have lived in Salt Lake. It is perfect. It comes across as a hole-in-the-wall restaurant which is perfect when it’s cold out side and all you want is a good bowl of soup.  But, it gets better. They make the yummiest sandwiches out of fresh baked bread and thin sliced meat (my fave) and their fries remind me of England (they taste like they were fried with fish). The whole ambiance reminds me of England. So what if I’ve never actually been to England! It must be that I always go when the weather is less than perfect and Sugarhouse is just so cute with the brick buildings and tucked in shops.

When we walked in from the cold Raine exclaimed, “nice and cozy!” You know that when a 4 year old catches on they got it right. There is almost always a line…and out the door if you go at lunch. (Check out the sweet vintage pictures they decorate with.)

So I can vouch for the soups (I will get a picture up ASAP). They are always fresh and taste like perfected homemade recipes. I’ve tried to re-create a couple with some success…those I’ll have to share later. The chicken noodle is awesome because of their thick homemade noodles…it’s Raine’s favorite. Their tomato soup is very popular…I’m pretty sure their secret ingredient is cream cheese. My new love is their split pea soup…it tastes like, well, perfect split pea soup. Husband always gets their clam chowder and he describes it as “light and a pleasure to eat!” Haha. They also have a soup of the day…I had the potato leek soup once and loved it but have never been there on the right day since.

Husband ordered their fish and chips with a cup of clam chowder.

I had a ham and swiss…how good does this look? I want one right now.

The soups are served with bread sticks…which I have to be honest aren’t my favorite. They aren’t as fresh tasting as everything else. But overall…this place is perfect at what they do.

It’s supposed to snow all week…how about some soup? Eh? Husband…

I’m huge fish and chips fan. Huge! Going to New Zealand a couple years back and eating it everyday didn’t help with that much.

It’s hard to find good fish and chips unless your on the coast. My substitute…fish tacos. You can get away with eating inland with fish tacos! Yum.

Oh gosh, please please dont talk about fish tacos! I love them too too much. Theres a taco stand on State and 900 South that we go to. Its located conveniently on the way to the free way :) I dont know if you do taco stands, but I do all the time!! Lone Star Taqueria is the best place for fish tacos, but it isnt as close.
