Here is our preliminary summer reading list. I’m hoping to get suggestions from you all– I totally blanked on a few of these.

When I think of a carefree summer. I think of books. I am a true word nerd…always have been.

Acceptance and understanding for my obsession welcomes me in our little home because we are all avid readers. All of us. So naturally, weekly themes for the summer have to include books to keep us inspired. I’ve included books for Little Lime to look at in bed, books for Miss Raine to read on her own, books for reading out loud together and books I might want to read.

We’ll be taking this list with us to the library and making sure we get popular books on hold ASAP. Another really good option for us (especially in the summer) is using electronic check-out at the library to download books on e-readers and audio books onto ipods for car rides this summer. For audio books that we can’t check out at the library we use Audible.com credits.

  1. Love this list… Jotting some new ones down. My daughter is reading Penderwicks lately.

  2. Magen says:

Good! How does she like it? I haven’t read it yet but I hear it is just a nice story and perfect for summer.

  3. Aimee says:

Great list! We really enjoyed reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins this year in school. It’s nothing like the movie, thank goodness!

  4. She loves it… And the big kids love the 39 Clues series, too.

  5. Stephanie says:

*Homer Price by Robert McCloskey (his Make Way for Ducklings is a favorite)
    *Lots of Beverly Cleary

  7. Magen says:

Summer reading is the ABSOLUTE best. Today we just cuddled up on the couch and read to each other while Lime took a nap. It’s so sweet to finally be able to read fiction with my daughter. Thank you for the additions to our list! Great suggestions…I haven’t read Misty of Chincoteague?

  8. Stephanie says:

Misty of Chicoteague is one of my great childhood reads memories. My 4th grade teacher Mrs. Ann Ogden read aloud to us after lunch recess every single day. Here is a neat link http://www.mistyofchincoteague.org/
    She introduced us to…
    Rabbit Hill (fantastic vocabulary)
    Henry Reed
    How to Eat Fried Worms
    Several Beverly Clearly
    Misty of Chincoteague
Mrs.Frisby and the Rats of NIHM
    A Wrinkle in Time
    Charlotte’s Web
Oh I could go on and on. I’ll spare you! lol
